Gojinjo Drum Performance
Every year the Gojinjo Drum Performance is held on July 31st and
August 1st at the Nabune Large Festival. This performance is said to have
originated from a story related to Uesugi Kenshin (a well-known samurai
commander, 1530-1578). When his troops came to attack Nabune, the unarmed
villagers tried to scare them off, wearing monster masks and seaweed wigs
and performing wildly on their drums. This performance is designated as
an Intangible Folk Property by Ishikawa-ken. You can enjoy this powerful
drum performance on any night from late April to late November, either
at Wajima Bunka Kaikan or Kasuga Shrine on the Sosogi Coastline. |
