1000 Terraced Rice Paddies (Senmaida)
@On a steep slope to the ocean, over 2000 rice paddies are located in tiers, producing an interesting, almost geometrical pattern. Some people say that the name "senmaida" (1000 rice paddies) comes from "semai-ta" (tiny rice paddies). This symbolizes the local situation--there aren't many flat areas available for farming. These paddies are the fruit of the local people's labor, who sweat blood to construct these rice paddies over the hillside.
