Ishikawa Prefectural Institute of Wajima Lacquer Arts
This center was founded in 1967 to give special training to lacquerware craftsmen. With the motto "Art is People," it aims to hand down high-quality traditional techniques. There are two courses: Futsu-ka and Senshu-ka. The Futsu-ka gives technical training to basic learners--such as Maki-e, Chinkin, coating with lacquer, and making cores. In the Senshu-ka, students learn painting and design as well as basic lacquerware techniques.
