Lacquerware is one of the most characteristic aspects of Japanese culture. Wajima Lacquerware has developed slowly throughout history in the lacquer city of Wajima. Traditional craftsmen's special skills are fully utilized in each lacquerware piece.

This section displays the works of modern artists. Some of these artists are living national treasures and others members of the Japan Academy of Art. These works express contemporary images using traditional lacquer. This collection shows that there is a promising future for lacquer arts.
