Kaga-mon (decorated family crest) refers to the colorful flower patterns which are applied in the yuzen dyeing process to the areas surrounding the family crest. The central crest is made small to give the total design a gorgeous quality.
The Kaga-mon came into use around the mid Edo period where both male and female as well as samurai, townspeople and people of refined taste incorporated it into their informal kimono wear. The Kaga-mon also came into use in the design of bedclothes, noren and fukusa and became an established part of daily living the people of the Kaga region since the Meiji period.
