Detail[ "Major Garden of the Heisei Period" project ]

The "Project for the improvement of the area around Hase Pond in Kenrokuen Garden" was completed in 2000.

While Hachakuji, the Maeda family's temple, was being built, this area was used for the residence of a senior retainer, and later, the Keibu-kan building of the clan school and a riding ground attached it. In the Meiji period, it was used for the residence of the second mayor of Kanazawa, and subsequently for an outdoor assembly hall. After World War II, a plum grove was planted and a children's garden established.

On this 1.5 ha lot, water was made to flow from the meandering stream, Shigure-tei was reconstructed and Funano-ochin was built. At Shigure-tei visitors can enjoy tea and admire the garden from inside the building. The plum grove, the blossoms of which signal the beginning of spring, is particularly beautiful.
