Harunaga period1745-1810 Reconstruction of Renchi-tei Garden
Renchi-tei Garden
Detail[ Picture of Renchi-tei Garden ]
Below is the oldest existing picture map of Renchi-tei Garden. It was apparently drawn in 1792, based on the recollections of the retainer Tsuda Genba, who had been allowed to look around the garden.
This picture map includes captions at twelve locations such as: "Yugao-tei, Waterfall-viewing Teahouse", "Taka-no-ochin (Tall Teahouse)" (commonly known as Sigure-tei), "Uchihashi-tei, Horse-viewing Teahouse", and "Riding Ground". They tell us that the teahouse names and nicknames date back to that time.
