Renchi-tei Garden
Detail[ The great fire of the Horeki period ]
The biggest fire of the feudal period broke out in 1759 (in the Horeki period), during the rule of the tenth lord Shigemichi. The fire originated in a temple on the left bank of the Saigawa River, crossed the river and spread all over the area around the castle. It also crossed the Asanogawa River, burning for a whole day. Kanazawa Castle and about 10,500 houses were destroyed, as was almost all of Renchi-tei Garden.
