Detail[ Presumed locations of Hoenji and Hachakuji temples ]
The gate of Hoenji, a temple devoutly frequented by Maeda Toshiie, is thought to have faced the Ishikawa-mon Gate of Kanazawa Castle. The area of land occupied by Hoenji Temple extended from the present lookout point to the far side of Kasumiga-ike Pond. The precincts of Hachakuji Temple are thought to have extended from the present branch office of the Kanazawa Castle and Kenrokuen administrative office to the plum grove.
