The Four Teahouses

Uchihashi-tei Teahouse

This building consists of two houses. The one floating on Kasumiga-ike Pond, is connected the other on land by a bridge. The design has its origin in the sukiya style of teahouse. It was also used as a place for schooling horses.

The teahouse was built at the time the fifth lord Tsunanori built Renchi-tei Garden, and reconstructed when the 11th lord Harunaga restored Renchi-tei Garden.

Tea ceremonies are held here once a year on May 7, when admission to Kenrokuen is free of charge.
