Segoe, Shioya and Hashidate in Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture -

These places once prospered as harbors in the export of the Daishoji Clan's rice, which was paid as land tax, and which helped produce many powerful ship owners.

Of these three places, Hashidate was referred to as "The Wealthiest Village in Japan" in one of the major magazines from about 90 years ago.

Many of the ship owners who made a fortune from commerce on a trading vessel called the "Kitamae ship", came from this village.

There were a large number of such Kitamae ship owners in Kanazawa and Noto.

From the latter half of the 18th century, through the beginning of the 20th century,

as recently as 150 years ago, Kitamae ship owners of Ishikawa expanded the Japanese economy and established its supply routes, which have become the foundation of the present economy.
