Nanao was a distributing center of commodities in Noto, and developed prosperous marine transportation. In the notes of the Sekikawa Family in Esashi, the names of 16 Kitamae Ship owners were written, including Tsumukaiya Nibei.
Shirai Kelp Shop, located in Ipponsugi Avenue re-creates the merchant families of those days.
