It opened in October 1996 as a transmitting base of new culture at the site of an old spinners, and its warehouses made of bricks have been reused. With "any time, any one, freely" as its key phrase, it not only supplies a place to create and to perform for young artists, but also furnishes itself with an "eco-life" workshop to raise the consciousness
for the environment.
It founded Kanazawa Craftsman College at the annex site for nine kinds of craftswork (such as carpentry, hyogu, household furnishings, and tile making) in order to hand down the techniques of craftsmen and to maintain and restore cultural properties. In addition, it may give new business opportunities by associating with other kinds of craftsmanship.
