It was built in 1863 as a retirement villa for Shinryuin, the biological mother of the 13th lord
Maeda Nariyasu, at the site of Takezawa Goten (palace) in Kenrokuen. As the building was
situated in the southeast (tatsumi) direction from Kanazawa Castle, it was called "Tatsumi Shinden"
(Southeast New Palace), and renamed "Seisonkaku" in 1874 when Kenrokuen was open to the public.
Inside you can see the orderly buke-shoin architectural style in each room including the
audience room. Ranma (transom), with the openwork of a phenix, a plum tree and camellias
carved out from the both sides, decorates the audience room, and makes you experience the luxury
of Kaga Clan. The building itself was designated as a national important cultural property in
1950.
