This museum of only lacquerware opened in 1991 in Wajima City known to the world as the kingdom of lacquerware.
It collects and diplays lacquerwares from all over the world, as well as masterpieces by lacquerware artists, new and old, including human national treasures and Art Academy members. The garden with seven kinds of urushi (lacquer) trees and a fountain is known as "Urushi no Sato Hiroba.
