Kyushitsu full of modern beauty in form
Shioda Keishiro was brought up in the hereditary lacquerer family. After graduating from the general higher elementary schiool, he started his training in Wajima lacquerware. After mastering a wide range of traditional lacquerware techniques, he has studied the techniques of kyushitsu and developed it as one of modern lacquerwares with rich expression.

HIs works are free-style wares and mainly in light-weight and usable kanshitsu. He made several innnovations by using several pieces of linen cloth and making use of raw feel of the cloth. He has made lacquer more solid by mixing it with ji-no-ko, sepecial product of Wajima. Kyushitsu was lacquer-painting, with an essentially small variety of techniques, but Shioda put kyushitsu of nuritate-finishing such as red lacquer and tame-nuri on kanshitsu. He made many works with modern feelings based on the traditional techniques.
